JumpStart puzzles on Jigsaw Planet
In case anyone's interested, I created some online JumpStart puzzles at Jigsaw Planet. Check them out here. If you would like to play with a different number of pieces or change other options, simply hover over the puzzle image, hover over the arrow, and then hover over "Play as" - that will give you options to change. Digital puzzles can be extremely fun, so I hope you enjoy! I'll probably be uploading more in the future.
How to run JumpStart games in windowed mode
JumpStart games always want to run in full-screen mode, but on occasions, that might not be what you or I want. After a couple attempts of finding a way to run the games in windowed mode, I found a completely functional solution in the form of a handy tool called DxWnd. Download the program, run it, right-click the white area, click "Add", choose a name and path to the game executable (*.exe file), and then double-click the name (or right-click it and choose "Run"). Very easy and very handy! At least with the (mostly default) settings I chose, the end result isn't exactly like a "normal" window (I can't move it around, there's a strange black box behind it, and the minimize, maximize and close buttons don't appear until you click on the ar…
Surreal discovery on the JumpStart Preschool (1999) disc
As most of us probably know, many classic JumpStart CD-ROMs come with a special feature: they're also audio CDs. Stick them in a CD player and you can listen to songs from the game. Well, today I made a weird discovery concerning the audio component of JumpStart Preschool (1999). If you listen to the CD using a computer program such as Windows Media Player, the album title is that of a completely different CD and all the tracks have completely wrong names that I would assume to be tracks on that CD. The songs themselves are perfectly accurate to the game, as far as I can tell.
I wonder what possible connection there could be between this "Mama's Boy" CD and JumpStart that would cause this to happen.
Great resource for getting JumpStart games to run on newer systems
I've sometimes experienced a rather frustrating and confusing issue when trying to run JumpStart games (usually ones released from 2001 and earlier). When I try to install the program, nothing happens. No error message or anything, just nothing. If I went into Task Manager, I would see some form of Setup that was clearly the JumpStart game in Processes, but nothing was actually happening. But what made this even more bizarre is that sometimes, if I waited a long time, the game would spontaneously start installing just like it should, and from then on everything worked perfectly!
Well, today I believe I have found the cause of my woes and the solution in the form of this Reddit page! Apparently, the JumpStart Setup is a "lower priority" for th…
